Video, Presentation
A presentation and a video that looks at stereotypes and in particular stereotypes about artists.
- Increase awareness of stereotypes and why they exist
- Increase awareness of stereotypes about artists
- Discuss what is art, how do we decide what is art
This presentation was made by youngsters from Morocco, Jordan, Romania, Latvia.
The presentation is tool that can help start a discussion about what are stereotypes, how they are formed and why they exist. The presentation discusses these topics through the prism of art. Art is an interesting catalyst to start a discussion about stereotypes from since art and beauty are subjective, and the questions what is art and an artist are great initiators for discussion about what we think and expect things should be/look like and why.
This video in artistic way shows how many stereotypes there can be about artists.
The group that made this tool after presenting it revealed that they had discovered a shared ambivalence towards Paulo Coelho and had symbolically burnt papers with phrases from his work on. The idea of this tool is reflected in this - it can help bring people together for a discussion on popular beliefs, icons and stereotypes, and help reveal a new viewpoint, whether it might be a common passion or dislike for something that is widely known.
